Silver Candle Sticks
The two candlesticks were given to Jean Valjean by the Bishop of D__ after Jean stole from the bishop and was arrested. The bishop gives Jean Valjean the candle sticks in Forgiveness. The candlesticks Jean Valjean never gives up constantly reminds him of being a good, holy man, and the value of honesty. This is a link to Jean Valjean in his efforts to stay a good man.
Crucifix
During Jean Valjeans' robbery in the bishops house, the crucifix shined and refracted light onto the Bishops Face protecting and watching over the Bishop and Jean Valjean. When Jean Valjean was admitting to being the criminal, Jean Valjean in the town of M___ where he was the Mayor, the crucifix was gone from above from the Judge's stand. this Also shows protection to Jean Valjean through morals and spirit.

After Jean Valjean left the town of D__ in a hope of becoming a good man, he met a savoyard named Petit Gervais. he was tossing up money in his hand and dropped a 40 sous piece. Jean stole the piece. he tried to track Petit down but he could never find Petit. He failed his first test about being a good person. The coin represents thievery and failure to be a good person. when He leaves the town of M____sir M___ he throws the same 40 sous piece in the fireplace.
Yellow Passport
The yellow passport represents the past of the main character, Jean Valjean. this was given to Jean as he left the galleys and he is required to show this at towns However, because of the passport, he gets half of pay for work in the tow of D___ and he is not allowed to stay at the hotel and tavern. He is discriminated against because of the passport, representing Social injustice.
Bread
Jean Valjean stole a single loaf of bread because of his sister and her kids were starving. bread represents hope because with bread, came life. Unfortunately, Jean was arrested and sent to the Galleys. the stolen bread is represented by disappointment and death, because there was no way the sister could supply for the kids and she probably ended up dying. This filling substance represents life, but mistake and tragedy in the eyes of JeanValjean.
